now, the higher elevations of napa county hit with snow last night. the plows were on stand by. >> by 8:30, the rain washed away most of the snow at elevation 4,300 but for part of the afternoon, the flakes definitely falling, enough that k cal trans put up signs. four miles down highway 29, the evening was peppered with downpours. it was an awful trip to get just about anywhere, some locals say the wet blast is unusual. >> i can pretty much get through the entire winter without turning on the heat and went home today and turned the heat on. we are miserable. >> reporter: visitors of chicago celebrating the 15th anniversary got a taste of the city they just left. >> expecting sunny. it was supposed to be our anniversary and here we are like in weather just like chicago. >> reporter: to get out of the 39-degree cold, some folks jumped in 104-degree water at the call calastoga hot spring. >> it is good for you. >> reporter: walking back into the cold is hard part. abc 7 news. >> no kidding. >>> check out this cal trans image. 101 north is shut down due to snow and traffic related

of the rainfall totals over the last 24 hours. .47 in napa. .4 in santa rosa. almost .3 for oakland, san francisco picking up almost .4. san jose picking up .13. we have seen snowfall in areas right around the santa cruz mountains, right over the summit, mount st. helena has reported a little snow. northern areas of napa county reported some snow yesterday. a few sprinkles that may or may not be hitting the ground at this point. it's sort of fascinating when we get that snow in our local hills. i'm seeing a little here remaining. that moisture over mount diablo. the altamont pass area stretching across 580. this is just the very tail end. we're going to see this actually continue to move to the south. if you are going to tahoe this weekend, still snow with an advisory over tahoe until 10:00 a.m. for the west slope droiring up to tahoe it's until 4:00 p.m. today. we have snow levels to pollock pines and in and around areas from truckee into blue canyon. snow level still fairly low, 3500 feet-4500 feet out there this morning. the winds are picking up. 8 miles per hour in nap awrks 9 in fairfield, 6

, cooler than what i just -- colder than what i just showed you. 43, santa rosa. 41, napa. upper 30s at novato, fairfield, concord, and livermore so you know it's going to be cold in those locations overnight. and now a beautiful view of a clear sky over the bay bridge from our exploratorium camera. these are our forecast features. a freeze warning in effect, "spare the air" alert for tomorrow, that's the second consecutive day. we had one today as well. and chilly days ahead. chilly afternoons on monday and tuesday, before we start to get a break in the cold snap. here's the pacific satellite image. you can see the movement of weather systems today. cold front moved south of us. the cold air continues to spill behind the clouds, moving into southern california, and clear skies in the bay area. so at 7:00 this evening, you won't see much happen overnight in terms of sky conditions. it will remain clear but temperatures will drop and they won't rise much tomorrow. so it's going to be another chilly day. overnight tonight look for low temperatures dropping to 21 at napa. 23 at santa ro

, napa. 23, livermore. 24, morgan hill. some of the colder locations right around the bay will see lows mainly in the upper 20s. at freezing or below in some coastal locations. then tomorrow, under mainly sunny skies in the afternoon. we'll see high temperatures in the south bay right around 50 degrees. 50 in san jose. 49, santa clara. on the peninsula most highs around 50 also from san mateo to pail l palo alto, mountain view. in and around san francisco, highs in the upper 40s. close to the coast, about 50. up in the north bay, the inland valleys will see highs in the low 50s. 52 in santa rosa. 52 at napa. he's bay highs, 49 at union city and fremont. inland east bay chillier than that. high temperatures will reach only into the upper 40s. all of the inland east bay locations, 48 at livermore,le pleasantton. temperatures moderate a little on wednesday and thursday. by the end of the week high temperatures back in the upper 50s which will seem almost like a heat wave compared to what we have now. a slight chance of some light rain on friday. doesn't look like much of a rainmaker. the b

's around santa rosa and napa and novato at 29 degrees. 34 in fremont and 39 in san jose and mountain view dropped and still freeze at half moon bay at 32 and san francisco is 44 and oakland is 42. there is a breeze in san francisco and although it is warmer here the best chance of report low is in napa at 24 and down to gilroy at 27 and 29 in gilroy right now. as far as san francisco we have to get to 34. san rafael maybe at 32 and live more is 33. san jose is 26. from mount tamalpais an area that will not see snow but there will be rain on friday around 3,100' on friday evening and coldest tonight can then chilly. temperatures will run in the upper 40's to low 50's in most neighborhoods. we will be in 9 mid-20's to low 30's inland and santa clara valley through fremont and palo alto and richmond and oakland and san mateo and san francisco, all in the mid-to-upper 30's. on thursday, low coming down by friday morning and there could be a few sprinkles in the north bay increasing and sliding to the south for the commute and in the afternoon you can see scattered rain moving in and that

in the napa valley. 24 now in santa rosa. and just hovering above freezing in san jose. so another cold start to the day but we have some changes ahead. clouds going to be rolling in. and then a chance of showers developing this afternoon. maybe a little snow over our mountaintops too and then temperatures slowly warm as we head in toward next week. but that cold air still remains locked in place at least for another day or so. then it looks look it will start to moderate towards sunday and monday but you also have a system that's going to slide down the back side of this trough bringing with it a chance of rain later today maybe a little snow over mountaintops. traveling around the state 50s into the central valley watch out for the rain in far northern california. and then looks like those showers beginning to develop into the afternoon hours so those clouds start to roll in and i think for the evening commute maybe scattered showers nothing too heavy then likely to pick up a bit overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning. with that in mind, all that cold air already trapped in place so wi

for santa rosa, napa, san francisco 47 and livermore forecast low of 40 degrees. as i mentioned the fog regrouping right now and a few patches will head into the bay. patchy overcast near livermore tomorrow morning. here's the change we're watching to the north. as a big cold air mass pushing into northern california. the big changes for tomorrow. the cold front pushes into the region. it'll shave off four to 8 degrees for today. the winds do pick up tomorrow night. coast side and for the hills. we could have winds approaching. we could have stronger winds by this time tomorrow. we had readings right around 70 degrees. look what happens by wednesday and thursday. warmest locations 49 to 50 degrees. and the overnight lows will be the bigger story. especially beginning thursday morning and into friday morning. wednesday morning is also going to be pretty chilly as well. that will be the key headline over the next few days. the bay area chill with temperatures at 25 to 30 degrees. everyone the coast in the upper 30s to 40 degrees. the coldest mornings will be thursday morning, friday morni

see there from our sue trough cam. sutro cam. the bay bridge is in the background. napa as well as santa rosa in the mid40s. concord is at 50 degrees. here is a look at the forecast highlights. we will look for a cooler day tomorrow. a few showers developing mainly in the north bay. cold and windy through the entire week. and it does look like freeze warnings will be up as we head into wednesday morning, tuesday and thursday. we will see a little high cloudiness. 30s in the north bay and 40s elsewhere and let's get to the timing of this thing. this is the frontal boundary right here. 11:00 and as it continues to sag south that is exactly -- it will exactly start to bring some moisture to the north bay. you can see monday afternoon, 3:00, this is where all of the cold air is. this is the cold front. it will move into sonoma county and possibly as far south as marin county with a chance of a few light showers and then continue to press on toward the south. it is the cold air mass behind it that will dive down. the wind will pick up out of the north. because of the insta belt we wi
